Lake Ontario King Salmon

The average King Salmon in Lake Ontario weighs from 15 to 25 pounds, with many 30 pound fish caught each year. They start the year off the Niagara Bar on the Western end of Lake Ontario and migrate East towards the Salmon River. On our Lake Ontario fishing charters, we aim to intercept these fish during this migration. The main diet of King Salmon in Lake Ontario are Alewife. We use spoons and flasher rigs to imitate the Alewife forage. Coho Salmon exhibit similar feeding patterns to King Salmon but are often encountered in fewer numbers.

Lake Ontario Brown Trout

The Brown Trout in Lake Ontario range from 4-8 pounds with many exceeding 10 pounds. We target Brown Trout from April until early August on our Lake Ontario fishing charters. The main forage of Brown Trout in Lake Ontario are Gobies and Alewife. We primarily use spoons and stick baits on our Lake Ontario fishing charters for Brown Trout. The Spring is well known to be the best time to troll for Brown Trout in Lake Ontario as they feed in the dirty water that is caused by snow melt and runoff from tributaries. This isn't something you want to miss out on!

The best time to catch Lake Trout in Lake Ontario is April through June. These are big fish number days with double digits being extremely common. The Lake Trout forage on Alewife and Goby primarily but are very opportunistic. We target Lake Trout using spoons and cowbell rigs.
