Lake Ontario offers up the possibility of catching trophy Salmon, Steelhead, Brown Trout and Lake Trout for up to 7 months out of the year! It is a true sport-fishing mecca. This season, we will be running our Lake Ontario fishing charters out of Pulaski, NY. The Salmon River is a beautiful port that allows us quick access to our fishing grounds during the King Salmon staging period! We offer half and full day fishing charters on Lake Ontario. The average King Salmon in Lake Ontario weighs from 15 to 25 pounds, with many 30 pound fish caught each year. They start the year off the Niagara Bar on the Western end of Lake Ontario and migrate East towards the Salmon River. On our Lake Ontario fishing charters, we aim to intercept these fish during this migration. The main diet of King Salmon in Lake Ontario are Alewife. We use spoons and flasher rigs to imitate the Alewife forage. Coho Salmon exhibit similar feeding patterns to King Salmon but are often encountered in fewer numbers.
The Brown Trout in Lake Ontario range from 4-8 pounds with many exceeding 10 pounds. We target Brown Trout from April until early August on our Lake Ontario fishing charters. The main forage of Brown Trout in Lake Ontario are Gobies and Alewife. We primarily use spoons and stick baits on our Lake Ontario fishing charters for Brown Trout. The Spring is well known to be the best time to troll for Brown Trout in Lake Ontario as they feed in the dirty water that is caused by snow melt and runoff from tributaries. This isn't something you want to miss out on!
The Lake Trout in Lake Ontario average 8-12 pounds with many exceeding 15 pounds. We target Lake Trout from April until July on our Lake Ontario fishing charters. The best time to catch Lake Trout in Lake Ontario is April through June. These are big fish number days with double digits being extremely common. The Lake Trout forage on Alewife and Goby primarily but are very opportunistic. We target Lake Trout using spoons and cowbell rigs. If you want to see the rods bend all day, book a Lake Ontario fishing charter with us!
I hope you have all had a great winter and are ready to enjoy the warm weather this upcoming summer! Come spend a day on the lake with us this year, you wont be disappointed!
