Last week we had some mixed bag fishing taking place on Lake Ontario. Some days we chose to fish close to shore and target Brown Trout and other days we decided to head out and fish for King Salmon that have been kicking around. The strong south winds last week made the water column very homogenous (mid 50's top to bottom). Our best rods for Brown Trout were Chinook Divers out 40' with Michigan Stinger spoons trailing them. For Kings, our best rods were definitely 7-color and 8-color leadcore with Moonshine standard-size spoons.
The recent heavy West winds have now brought in some warm water and started to set up a bit of a thermocline for us. The Brown Trout fishing this past weekend was very good with some stained water being brought into our fishing grounds. The temperature was relatively the same top to bottom around 60 degrees, expect that to change as the winds and currents change. I expect that this upcoming wind system pushing through this week will help set up some more great Salmon fishing and Brown Trout fishing.
We have openings this week and next week for charters on Lake Ontario out of Oswego, NY! Come out and see what it is about.
